New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday hit out at the Centre for increasing the fuel prices for the second time in five days. In its X post, the grand old
party called Prime Minister Narendra Modi an "inflation man." The Congress alleged that the prices were increased as the elections in four states and a union territory were over. "The 'Inflation Man' Modi's whip has struck the public again. Petrol and diesel have been hiked by 90 paise. Modi has raised prices by 4 rupees in the last 4 days," the Congress said in its X post. "With this increase, petrol has reached 109 rupees and diesel 96 rupees in the country. This is just the beginning. The Inflation Man will extract even more because the elections are over," it added. Fuel Prices Increased: Earlier in the day, the fuel prices were increased in less than a week. Petrol and diesel prices were increased by around 90 paisa. After the hike, the new petrol rates have gone up from Rs 97.77 per litre to Rs 98.64, while diesel rates have risen to Rs 91.58 in Delhi.
Last week on Friday (May 15), petrol and diesel prices were hiked by Rs 3 per litre after state-owned oil firms ended a four-year record hiatus in rate revision.

State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) had abandoned the daily price revision in April 2022 to insulate domestic consumers from a steep price increase that was warranted because of international oil prices shooting through the roof post Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
CNG Prices Also Hiked Last Week:
On May 15, prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) have also been hiked. by Rs 2 per kg in metro cities including Delhi and Mumbai, The prices were also increased by Re 1 on Sunday.
