‘Kohima’ is trending on Google today, and the reason behind it is none other than the internet’s favourite Oscar-winning composer, A. R. Rahman. The town
entered the spotlight after Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio and Oscar- and Grammy-winning music maestro Dr A. R. Rahman jointly announced the launch of the Naga International Studio. The announcement was made on Saturday, December 27, revealing plans for a world-class music production and creative studio by A. R. Rahman, which will be set up in Kohima. According to reports, the studio, conceptualised by Dr A. R. Rahman, will be equipped with state-of-the-art recording facilities, a performance auditorium and a range of supporting creative infrastructure aimed at nurturing artistic talent. Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio welcomed Dr A. R. Rahman to his native village of Touphema in Kohima district and expressed gratitude to the music maestro for introducing a landmark creative project to the state. He noted that the project reflects Dr Rahman’s deep affection for the Naga people and his commitment to encouraging talent in India’s remote regions. The Chief Minister also assured him of the state government’s full support for the initiative. Dr Rahman, in turn, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Nagaland and the people of the state for their warmth, encouragement and support. The film captures Nagaland’s musical transformation and highlights the region’s evolving creative identity. The announcement, coupled with Rahman’s visit and the documentary launch, has also drawn massive attention from his fans nationwide.
