A patient’s death at a government trauma centre in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, triggered a violent clash between his family members and doctors, followed
by a protest by medical staff that disrupted emergency services for around three hours. A video showing the confrontation at the trauma centre has surfaced online. The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has condemned the physical violence against doctors and called for immediate action and accountability. The incident took place at the government medical college’s trauma centre after 28-year-old Mohan, a resident of Firozabad’s Savita Nagar, was brought to the emergency department with complaints of stomach pain and vomiting on Wednesday night. According to local reports, he was admitted around 8 pm and died around 10 pm.
Mohan’s family has alleged medical negligence, claiming that doctors did not attend to him for nearly an hour despite his deteriorating condition. His brother Yogesh alleged that treatment was not started on time and that even oxygen was not provided. These allegations have not been independently established.
Following Mohan’s death, the situation inside the trauma centre escalated. According to reports, an argument between the family and medical staff turned into a physical altercation. The family allegedly assaulted a doctor on duty, following which other medical staff became involved in the confrontation. Both sides have levelled allegations against each other.
The clash was followed by a protest by doctors and paramedical staff. Medical personnel stopped work and sat on a dharna outside the trauma centre, affecting emergency services and leaving patients and their families facing difficulties. Local reports said the disruption lasted for around three hours.
The situation prompted the deployment of police personnel from several stations. Administrative officials, including senior police and city officials, reached the spot and held discussions with the protesting doctors. The doctors eventually called off the protest after being assured that the incident would be investigated and appropriate action taken.
The deceased’s family has demanded strict action against the doctors and hospital staff allegedly involved in the assault. Police have received complaints from both sides and are examining video footage as part of the investigation. Officials have said action will be taken against anyone found responsible after the inquiry.
