Uttar Pradesh schools (both government and private) will remain closed in Bareilly district. The district administration issued an order for closure of
schools up to Class 8 till December 20, 2025. The schools will now reopen on Monday, December 22. School holiday has been announced considering the disruptions caused by the cold wave and dense fog. "In view of the severe cold and persistent fog, all government, aided and private schools from Classes 1 to 8 will remain closed from December 18-20," officials said. According to Basic Siksha Adhikari Dr Vinita, the decision was taken on the directions of District Magistrate Avinash Singh. One must know that strict action will be taken against any school found violating the order. Exams to be conducted as scheduled: DM When asked if schools will have to postpone the exam due to this order, DM said that the schools where exams will be conducted in these three days can conduct the exams as planned. Bareilly and adjoining areas have been covered under a dense blanket of fog for the past few days. December 16 was recorded as the coldest day in the district in the last 10 years. The maximum temperature dropped to 16.3 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for dense fog for the next three days. It has been predicted that cold winds from the hills can further aggravate the situation. Cold winds intensified the chill, while poor visibility during morning hours slowed traffic and increased the risk of accidents. The administration has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and take special care of children and the elderly. Meanwhile, National Capital Delhi and adjoining areas woke up to dense fog with near zero visibility today, December 18. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 8 and 10 degree Celsius till December 20. The cold is expected to increase from December 21. Delhi-NCR’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 482 at 6 a.m. on Thursday and worsened to 567 by around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. Residents are struggling more with toxic air than with the cold, as many report breathing difficulties and eye irritation.Check impact of pollution on schools here. (With PTI inputs)
