As heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi on Monday, 14 flights, including two international flights, were diverted from Delhi airport due to bad weather,
airport sources told Times Now. Of the 14 diverted flights, 11 were diverted to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow, according to the sources. The diversions came as heavy showers swept across the national capital, bringing relief from the humid weather but causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions in several areas, as per reports. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for parts of Delhi, forecasting heavy to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds of up to 40 kmph over the next few hours. Between 8.30 am and 11.30 am, Chhatarpur recorded the highest rainfall in Delhi at 28 mm, followed by Lodi Road at 24.6 mm and Pitampura at 18.5 mm, according to the IMD. During the same period, the Ridge recorded 5 mm of rain, while Mayur Vihar received 1.5 mm, Safdarjung 1 mm and Ayanagar 0.1 mm. The rain was accompanied by strong winds in several parts of the city. Waterlogging was reported near New Ashok Nagar Metro Station, Burari, CR Park and Alaknanda. Several commuters also reported traffic jams and waterlogged roads on social media, with movement affected in multiple parts of the city. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung on Monday, which was 1.4 degrees above normal. The Ridge recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 24 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at around 34 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. Passengers travelling through Delhi airport have been advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport as weather conditions may continue to affect flight operations.
