Bengaluru: After the modern parking facility at Freedom Park, Bengaluru is now preparing for another high-tech parking hub — this time at the historic
KR Market. For the first time, a public market in the city will have a smart parking system with AI surveillance, digital payments, and user-friendly features. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has given the project to a private company for 10 years. The company will pay Rs 4.3 crore each year and also spend Rs 7–8 crore to upgrade the old basement of the KR Market building, reported The Times of India. What Will the New Parking Hub Offer?
- It will take six months to finish the redevelopment and install the smart systems.
- Once ready, the basement will have space for 200 cars and 400 two-wheelers.
- There will be special parking bays for women and people with disabilities.
- Parking fees will be kept low, just like at the Freedom Park facility.
Extra Features for Convenience
- A free air-filling station
- A puncture repair shop
- On-site mechanics to help with vehicle breakdowns
Safety and Technology
- Around 85 AI-powered CCTV cameras will watch over the entire area.
- These cameras can recognise faces and track number plates, improving security and helping to stop theft or misuse.
- The whole system will be fully automated, with ticketless entry and exit, and digital payments only.
A senior GBA official said this is Bengaluru’s first step towards world-class parking solutions. Just as Freedom Park became a model for multi-level parking, KR Market will set a new standard for smart parking in busy, traditional market areas.
