What is the story about?
A few days after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiled the State Education Policy (SEP), the state's Education Minister Anbil Mahesh has assured
the general public that he will be answering all questions related to the newly announced policy. "It is our duty to address the doubts of teachers, students, and parents regarding the “Tamil Nadu State Education Policy (School Education)-2025”! I have started providing answers to their questions in both languages (Tamil, English)," the state education minister, Anbil Mahesh, tweeted via his official 'X' (earlier known as Twitter) account. Anbil Mahesh clarified that he will be answering all questions in Tamil (the regional language of the state) as well as English. This falls in line with the state's new education policy, which will always be a two language policy - Tamil and English, the ministers added on August 8. The Stalin-led government has adopted Tamil and English as the policy languages as the minister alleges that NEP is BJP's way of attempting to impose Hindi on the Southern state.
The new state education policy was unveiled at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium in Kotturpuram, Chennai on August 8 by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. This policy has been released as an alternate to the existing National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, backed by the Centre. The DMK government has often termed NEP 2020 as a policy "against social justice".
This State Education Policy (SEP) has been drafted by a committee set up by the state government. This committee is chaired by retired High Court Judge Justice D Murugesan, who submitted the report to Stalin-led government in 2024. The policy was since awaiting release and implementation.
