Pralhad Joshi has taken charge as the Union Education Minister after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the post amid student protests across the country.
Joshi has been given additional charge of the education ministry besides his role as the consumer affairs minister. Taking it to social media platform X, Joshi said, "Today, I assumed charge as the Union Minister for Education. I am grateful to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for placing his faith in me and entrusting me with this responsibility. I accept it with humility and a deep sense of duty." The Education Minister, who is also the Cabinet minister and Member of Parliament, is entitled to a salary, several allowances and a range of official facilities provided by the Central government. He receives a basic salary of Rs 1 lakh per month. In addition, the education minister is entitled to constituency allowance of Rs 70,000 per month for constituency-related work. He is further entitled to an office allowance of Rs 60,000 per month to meet office expenses. Further, the government entitles a daily allowance of over Rs 2,000 for each day Parliament or its committees are in session and attended by the minister. Bungalow in New Delhi: The Education Minister is also allotted a fully furnished government bungalow in New Delhi's Lutyens' Zone maintained by the government for official and residential use. It also comes with an official government vehicle, driver and fuel for official duties, and the cabinet ministers receive security cover based on threat assessments conducted by the relevant government agencies. Their residences are also equipped with telephone, internet and other communication facilities required for government work. In terms of travel benefits, ministers are entitled to official travel across India, including executive-class air travel and First AC train travel for government work. They are entilted to health benefits under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
