Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have acknowledged that the BJP will eventually have to make way for the Opposition. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi told the meeting that when he met Modi and Amit Shah, they told him, “When we go, you will come.” Rahul Gandhi reportedly used this to make a larger point to Congress leaders amid questions over his approach, saying: “If they have faith that we will come, then you should also have faith in me.” He reportedly told party leaders that they may not currently have complete faith in him, but urged them to trust his assessment of the political situation and the campaign against the Election Commission. On the issue of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and SIR, Rahul Gandhi is learnt to have said that Gyanesh Kumar will eventually have to go, adding that the movement would continue irrespective of whether he resigns. He also outlined three demands before the party: • Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation • Immediate suspension of SIR • Prime Minister and Home Minister taking responsibility, with Rahul Gandhi demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation The INDIA bloc is expected to discuss the next course of action, including a proposal for a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan. Congress is also preparing a programme on the issue on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, according to party sources.
Tharoor’s Gandhi Jayanti Remark Draws Laughter in CWC
According to Congress sources, when Shashi Tharoor suggested that the party should organise a large-scale programme on Gandhi Jayanti, Mallikarjun Kharge reportedly quipped:
“Will you be part of it, or will your statement only appear in the newspapers the next day?”
The remark reportedly drew laughter among CWC members.
