As a thick layer of fog reduced visibility across Bengaluru, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday (December 16) issued an advisory warning
passengers of possible flight delays and traffic congestion on roads. The airport urged travellers to arrive early to allow sufficient time for check-in and ensure a smooth travel experience. "Passenger advisory: Due to forecasted low visibility over the next few days, there may be flight delays and road traffic congestion on the routes to the airport. To ensure smooth and seamless travel, passengers are encouraged to arrive early to allow sufficient time for travel formalities," the airport posted on X. Further, the Bengaluru Airport advised commuters to stay in touch with their respective airlines and check all flight-related information.

As visuals of the misty city surfaced online, airport authorities confirmed that 48 flights were delayed on Monday due to poor visibility caused by low temperatures. The authorities assured that assistance would be provided to the passengers and necessary measures would be taken to manage the impact of weather conditions.

Fog Disrupts Flight Operations
According to a spokesperson from Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), flight operations were affected between 4.14 am and 10.30 am. Of the 48 delayed flights, 46 were domestic, while two were international. Four flights, two arrivals, and two departures, were on the Bengaluru–Delhi route.
Operations gradually returned to normal after visibility improved later in the morning.

On Monday night, Bengaluru witnessed a minimum temperature of 14.6 degrees Celsius, making the early Tuesday morning chillier for people. The city is expected to experience misty conditions with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 27°C. Humidity levels are high, but no weather warnings have been issued.
A significant drop in temperatures during the night over the last few days has left people across Karnataka shivering.
Moreover, winds are expected to blow at speeds of up to 20.9 kmph, while the Air Quality Index (AQI) is likely to fluctuate between 60 and 220, keeping air quality in the poor category.
