The Delhi government is set to purchase two boats with air-conditioned cabins at a total cost of around Rs 6.2 crore for VIP inspections along the Yamuna,
according to a tender issued by the irrigation and flood control (I&FC) department, a report by Hindustan Times reported. The tender, dated March 12, states that each “air-conditioned boat with enclosed cabin for VVIPs/VIPs” will cost approximately Rs 3.10 crore. The bidding process will close on March 19, and the boats are expected to be delivered within five months after finalising the supplier. A senior I&FC official as per HT report said that the boats are being procured to facilitate frequent inspections as part of the government’s focus on cleaning the Yamuna. These vessels may also be used during emergency rescue operations when required. These hired boats have also been used for visits by senior officials, including the Lieutenant Governor.
Premium Features And Capacity
According to project documents, each boat will accommodate 16 to 20 people and measure 13 metres in length, 4.3 metres in width and 2.1 metres in height. The vessels will feature enclosed cabins equipped with cassette-type rooftop marine air conditioners, business class push-back seats, a pantry, washrooms and a fresh water storage capacity of 400 litres.
An open rear deck will be included for public appearances, fitted with sofa-style seating for three to four people. The interiors will have customised seating with premium finish, ambient lighting and modern fittings.
The boats will be powered by 300 HP four-stroke engines and fuel tanks with a capacity of 700 to 1,000 litres. They are designed to achieve speeds of up to 25 knots and will have a displacement of around 12 tonnes at full load.
Safety features include tracking devices, VHF radio communication systems, fire pumps, emergency medical equipment and depth sounders capable of measuring water depth up to 500 metres. The supplier will also be responsible for maintenance and spare parts for two years.
The procurement comes alongside other initiatives on the river, including a recently acquired 40-seater vessel intended for cruise services between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. The project aims to introduce recreational activities and improve public engagement with the Yamuna, though its launch has been delayed.
