New Delhi: With large crowds expected to gather to welcome the New Year, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory, announcing extensive
restrictions around Connaught Place and India Gate from 7 pm onwards on December 31, 2025, until the conclusion of New Year celebrations. The restrictions will apply to all private and public transport vehicles, and commuters have been urged to plan their travel well in advance.
Connaught Place: No Entry Beyond Key Junctions
No vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond several designated points, including Mandi House, Bengali Market, Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road–DDU Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near New Delhi Railway Station, R.K. Ashram Marg–Chitragupta Marg, Gole Market, GPO, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Road–Ferozeshah Road crossing, Bangla Sahib Lane, and Windsor Place.In addition, no vehicular movement will be permitted in the inner, middle or outer circles of Connaught Place, except for vehicles carrying valid passes.
Designated parking facilities will be available near Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, Mandi House, Minto Road, Panchkuian Road, KG Marg–Ferozeshah Road crossing, Bengali Market, Windsor Place, Gole Market, and Jantar Mantar Road.
Police have cautioned that parking will be available strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, and unauthorised or improperly parked vehicles will be towed and prosecuted.
For commuters approaching New Delhi Railway Station from the south, alternative routes via Mandir Marg, Rani Jhansi Road, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, and Bhav Bhuti Marg have been suggested. Entry from Connaught Place via Chelmsford Road will remain prohibited.
Motorists have been advised to use the Ajmeri Gate side for access to the station. Old Delhi Railway Station will not be affected by these restrictions.
Suggested Routes for City Movement
For north–south movement, commuters are advised to use Ring Road routes, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg–Mathura Road, or alternative corridors via Rani Jhansi Marg and Panchkuian Road.
For east–west movement, motorists should use Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, and Shankar Road.
India Gate: Possible Diversions Due to Crowd
Elaborate traffic arrangements have also been made around India Gate. In case of heavy pedestrian movement, vehicles may be diverted from multiple junctions, including C-Hexagon, Janpath, Windsor Place, Mandi House, Mathura Road, and Sunheri Masjid.Visitors have been strongly advised to use public transport, as parking space around India Gate will be extremely limited.
In view of expected congestion near Delhi Zoo, motorists have been advised to avoid Bhairon Road and Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan during peak hours.
The traffic police have appealed to residents and visitors to follow the advisory, cooperate with on-ground personnel, and opt for public transport to ensure a safe and smooth New Year’s Eve in the national capital.
