Bengaluru: A thick blanket of fog covered large parts of Bengaluru on Tuesday morning, reducing visibility and delaying flight operations at Kempegowda
International Airport (KIA). As visuals of the misty city surfaced online, airport authorities confirmed that 48 flights were delayed on Monday due to poor visibility caused by low temperatures.
Fog Disrupts Flight Operations
According to a spokesperson from Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), flight operations were affected between 4.14 am and 10.30 am. Of the 48 delayed flights, 46 were domestic, while two were international. Four flights, two arrivals and two departures, were on the Bengaluru–Delhi route.
Operations gradually returned to normal after visibility improved later in the morning.

Low Temperature Triggered Dense Fog
The fog was triggered by a minimum temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius recorded at the airport. Despite both the North and South runways being equipped with Category III-B Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), visibility dropped below safe operational limits for pilots and ground staff.Airlines Issue Early Morning Alerts
Major airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, issued early morning advisories warning passengers of limited operability due to unfavourable weather, particularly across North India and around New Delhi, which also contributed to disruptions.
As Bengaluru woke up wrapped in fog, the city took on a rare, serene appearance. Streets, buildings and trees slowly faded into the mist, making the bustling metro feel more like a quiet hill station. The fog softened the city’s usual morning rush, bringing cooler air, muted sounds and hazy skylines.
