The board of Diamond Harbour municipality was dissolved on Sunday after nine Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillors resigned from the civic body, triggering
administrative intervention in the municipality located in TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s parliamentary constituency. Following the resignations, Diamond Harbour Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Ayan Dattagupta was appointed administrator of the municipality, bringing the civic body under administrative control. Eight councillors from the 16-ward municipality submitted their resignations on May 25, while the ninth stepped down on Sunday, paving the way for the board's dissolution. The councillors attributed their decision to alleged financial irregularities in the municipality, along with claims of police harassment and intimidation. According to administrative sources, municipal chairman Pranab Das forwarded the resignation letters to the state urban development and municipal affairs department. The department subsequently issued an order dissolving the municipal board.
