Heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Sunday damaged a key bridge on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, disrupting traffic and prompting
flood alerts across the region. Two people have also died in rain-related incidents in Kathua and Reasi districts, officials said. Authorities said the Sahar Khad river swelled due to continuous downpours, damaging the bridge near Logate Mor. The bridge has been closed for all movement, and residents have been urged to stay away from the site. The Ujh river in Kathua is also nearing the danger mark, raising fears of further flooding.

In Jammu city, heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging, with residents in Jani Put seen manually draining inundated houses. The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKUTDMA) has issued an alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and the risk of flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides across vulnerable districts, including Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Ramban, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal over the next six hours.
Meanwhile, two people were killed in separate incidents triggered by the rains. In Reasi district, a truck was hit by a landslide near Malai Nallah in Mahore around 2.30 AM, leaving one person dead and two injured. In Kathua, a man identified as Ravi was swept away when his car was caught in flash floods near Dreamland Park. His body was later recovered by rescue teams.
At least 20 passengers, including students, were also injured when a bus overturned near a bridge in Arnia on the outskirts of Jammu. Four of the injured were reported to be in serious condition.
Chief Minister's Office said all departments are on high alert, with control rooms active and priority being given to drainage and restoring essential services such as water supply and power. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and dial 112 in case of emergencies.
