What is the story about?
Observed on 23rd December, Farmer’s Day or Kisan Divas, is celebrated to honor the contributions of farmers to our society and appreciate their work. Another
significance of the day is that it coincides with the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime minister of India, Choudhary Charan Singh, who is known for being one of the most prominent leaders of Indian farmers. Famers have been long known as the backbone of Indian economy. Not only are they recognized as a key stakeholder of India’s growth, in terms of employment and food security, but they are also one of the major drivers of India’s development.

Farmer’s Day 2025: Significance
In India, farmers are often called ‘annadaataa’, a Sanskrit word meaning ‘giver of food.’ This day serves as a reminder to appreciate their hard work and to ensure they have a good quality of life.
This day is important because it reminds everyone that a lot of people in India rely on farming to make a living. It is a time to talk about big problems like climate change and the rising costs of farming. By celebrating this day, the government and the public look for new ways to use technology and better policies to make sure farmers are happy and prosperous.
What Are Some New Goals For Farmer Development?
The special focus for 2025 is on helping small farmers work together in groups called Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). When farmers join these groups, they have more power to get better prices for their crops and can easily afford modern tools and technology. The goal is to help Indian farming become successful enough to compete with the rest of the world by the year 2047.
In a Ministry of Rural Development press release, Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has introduced the VB G RAM G Bill, 2025. This new law is designed to modernize rural development and increase job security for people living in villages as part of the "Viksit Bharat 2047" vision.
The government is increasing the guaranteed wage employment from 100 days (under MGNREGA) to 125 days per year for every rural household willing to do manual labor.
The government believes that rural India has changed a lot over the last 20 years. People have better internet, roads, and electricity, and their goals have changed.
