US Rains Bombs on Iran, Attacks Kharg Island
Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, US President Donald Trump announced through a social media post that the US has ‘obliterated’ military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island, warning that oil infrastructure there could be next. Kharg Island, a small coral outcrop about 21 miles off Iran's southern coast, serves as the principal terminal through which most of the country's crude oil exports are shipped.
“Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island,” Trump said.
He added: “For reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island. However, should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision.”
Following this, Iran warned that all the oil fields and related infrastructure across the West Asian region will be on target is its oil infrastructure is attacked. The spokesperson for the Central Headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya said that if Iran’s oil infrastructure is attacked, “all the oil and energy infrastructure belonging to oil companies across the region that have American shares or cooperate with the United States will be destroyed and turned into a pile of ashes," as reported by Al Jazeera citing Iranian media.
