Travelers who enjoy using points for flights between the U.S. and Japan got some disappointing news today. Japan Airlines has announced that its partnership
with JetBlue will wrap up on March 31, 2026. The two airlines started working together back on April 23, 2025, letting members of each loyalty program book award tickets on the other's flights. That means JetBlue TrueBlue members could redeem points for seats on Japan Airlines, and JAL Mileage Bank members could do the same for JetBlue flights. Many people found the deal especially useful for trips to Japan. For example, flying economy from Hawaii to Japan cost just 30,000 TrueBlue points one way, while business class ran 55,000 points. From the East Coast, economy awards started at 39,900 points, and business class at 79,900.
You can make new award reservations till March 31
Japan Airlines posted the update on its partnership page today, stating the arrangement ends March 31, 2026. JetBlue's site hasn't mentioned the change yet, but that will likely happen soon. The good news is there's still time to book. You can make new award reservations, including changes to existing ones, all the way through March 31, 2026, as per a report from Upgraded Points. Any tickets issued before that date remain valid, even for travel after April 1.
If you need to cancel or adjust a booking later on, JAL says it should still be possible, ideally online. Just keep in mind you might have to call customer service for flights starting April 1 or later.
With less than a year since the partnership began, this short-lived deal is ending sooner than many expected. If you've been eyeing a points trip on either airline, now's the time to lock in your plans before the option disappears.
