A Full Emergency was declared at the Chennai Airport on Tuesday night, August 11, as an IndiGo flight was compelled to make an emergency landing at the airport
due to engine failure. Reportedly, IndiGo flight 6E-723, travelling from Kolkata to Chennai, made an emergency landing due to its left engine’s ‘inoperative condition’. The aircraft, which was scheduled to arrive at 11:30 PM, subsequently landed safely at 11:37 PM on Runway 25 in Chennai. The Full Emergency, on the other hand, was declared at 11:29 PM, right before the flight’s emergency landing. Following the declaration of the Full Emergency, necessary emergency response arrangements were also initiated to facilitate the safe arrival of the aircraft. Reportedly, the flight had 224 persons on board. After the flight’s safe landing, the Full Emergency was later formally withdrawn– at 11:47 PM. Currently, all operations are being conducted normally. In a separate incident, an Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi reportedly lost altitude by around 300 meters mid-air, after heavy turbulence. The incident involving Airbus A320neo, operating flight AI2379, unfolded on August 04. The said flight had a total of 145 occupants: 137 passengers and 8 crew members. Luckily enough, the incident caused no casualty, while the plane landed in Delhi at 11:07 AM. The incident reportedly left at least 17 people onboard injured, including one cabin crew member who suffered severe injuries. A total of 13 passengers and 4 crew members were admitted to hospital for treatment. Upon landing, the two-member pilot crew underwent a psychoactive substance test, which one of the pilots, the Pilot-in-Command (PIC), failed to clear. After the PIL failed to clear the test, he underwent a second dope test whose results are awaited. In a statement on August 09, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said that the investigation into the incident has been handed over to the Aircraft Incident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
