A key milestone in this expansion is the opening of the 4.4 km Metro Line 9 stretch between Dahisar and Kashigaon, which marks thefirst metro corridor in the Thane district. This link connects Mira Bhayander to the wider metro network, improving regional access. At the same time, the launch of Metro Line 2B between Mandale and Diamond Garden brings metro connectivity to Mumbai’s eastern suburbs for the first time, widening the reach of urban transit across the city.
New Mumbai Metro Corridor In Line
Authorities plan to scale the network to 337 km once all projects are completed, positioning Mumbai among cities with the longest metro systems globally. The Rs 6,500 crore Metro 9 project is being developed in two phases, with the second 4.3 km stretch from Sai Baba Nagar to Subhash Chandra Bose Nagar expected later this year.Operational changes have also been introduced, with Metro 7 now integrated with Line 9 to offer direct connectivity from Gundavali to Kashigaon, while Metro 2A runs as a standalone corridor. Further expansion of Line 2B, including upcoming stretches from DN Nagar to Chembur, is expected to be completed by 2027 to 2028.
