The Ministry of Education has invited applications for the post of Director at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and IIT Indore. Eligible
candidates can submit their applications in the prescribed format by October 31, 2026. The recruitment has been opened by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The selected candidates will head the two autonomous institutions, which are fully funded by the ministry. The Director's post at IITs carries a fixed pay of Rs 2.25 lakh per month, along with allowances as applicable under the prescribed rules. Applicants will have to submit a detailed resume in the prescribed format, along with details of their administrative achievements. The application must also include a justification of at least two pages explaining the candidate's suitability for the post, a vision statement for the institute and contact details of at least two people who are well acquainted with the applicant. IIT Director Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria According to the ministry's notice, applicants should have leadership qualities and at least five years of administrative experience. Candidates should preferably be below 60 years of age on the last date for receipt of applications. The applicant should hold a PhD degree with a first-class or equivalent qualification in the preceding degree, preferably in engineering. Candidates with degrees in science, mathematics or management may also be considered in exceptional cases. Applicants are also required to have a strong academic record and at least 10 years of teaching experience as a professor at a reputed engineering or technology institute or university. Experience of guiding PhD students is also required. The current Director of IIT Delhi is Rangan Banerjee, while Suhas S Joshi is serving as Director of IIT Indore. Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements can submit their applications along with the required documents and supporting information by October 31, 2026.
