The Secondary Education Directorate has instructed all government primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools to operate from 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The revised schedule came into effect on June 22 and is aimed at protecting students and teachers from exposure to extreme afternoon heat while ensuring that academic activities continue without interruption. The decision follows concerns over the impact of soaring temperatures on students commuting to and from schools during the hottest hours of the day. Several parts of Bihar have been experiencing intense summer conditions, prompting authorities to take preventive measures to safeguard children's health and well-being. According to the revised timetable, students are required to reach school by 6:30 AM. The day will begin with the morning prayer and assembly, followed by regular classroom instruction. Academic sessions will continue through the morning hours, allowing schools to complete teaching activities before temperatures peak later in the day. For students in primary and middle schools, the schedule also includes time for the mid-day meal programme. The department has ensured that essential services and learning activities remain unaffected despite the shortened school day. Schools have been directed to adhere strictly to the revised timings and make necessary arrangements for smooth implementation. The order applies to government schools across the state and will remain in force until June 30. Education officials have indicated that the situation will be reviewed based on weather conditions and forecasts in the coming days.
