Bengaluru: Namma Metro began rolling stock type tests on Sunday on the elevated section of the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere. These
tests check whether new trains and their systems are safe and ready for passenger service. Engineers test key aspects such as braking, crash safety, ride stability and performance at different speeds. The aim is to spot and fix any problems before the trains start carrying commuters. According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), mainline testing is a crucial step before opening a line. After these trials, officials will carry out detailed checks of train performance and how well all systems work together under real conditions. The metro can begin commercial operations only after receiving statutory approvals. BMRCL is using a six-coach train supplied by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), which was delivered in December last year. Officials expect the testing process to finish by mid-April, after which the train will be cleared for regular service. This 7.5-km stretch is expected to open to the public from May, reported The India Express.

During this period, engineers will carry out traction and braking tests, oscillation trials at various speeds, and integration tests with signalling, power supply and telecom systems, BMRCL said.
The Pink Line will run for 21.25 km, connecting Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. It will include 13.76 km of underground tracks and 7.5 km of elevated tracks, with a total of 18 stations. The line will serve key areas such as MG Road, Pottery Town, IIMB, JP Nagar 4th Phase and Hulimavu.
The underground section between Dairy Circle and Nagawara is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Major interchange stations on the Pink Line will include Jayadeva Hospital (Yellow Line), MG Road (Purple Line), Nagawara (future Blue Line), and JP Nagar 4th Phase (proposed Orange Line).
