What is the story about?
A complaint was filed against Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav at Patna’s Digha police station on Monday. The complaint alleges that he possesses
two different voter ID cards with separate numbers, which could be a criminal offence. According to news agency ANI, the complaint was submitted by advocate Rajiv Ranjan. However, the police have not yet registered an FIR in the case.
Tejashwi Claims His Name Missing From Voter List
The draft voter lists have been published as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, and opposition parties have raised concerns, accusing the Election Commission of removing names unfairly, allegedly under pressure from the ruling BJP and its allies.
Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav held a press conference where he claimed his name was missing from the voter list. He connected his phone to a large screen and searched online for his voter ID number, RAB2916120, which showed “no records found.”
Tejashwi A Registered Voter, Says EC
However, the Election Commission later said that Yadav is indeed a registered voter. They said his correct voter ID number is RAB0456228, and his name is listed at serial number 416 of polling station number 204, located at Bihar Animal Sciences University in Patna. The EC also said this EPIC number was valid in both the 2015 and 2020 elections.
Due to the difference in voter ID numbers, the BJP has accused Yadav of having two EPICs, which is illegal. The Election Commission has now sent a notice to Tejashwi Yadav, asking him to submit the details of the EPIC number he used in the press conference. The matter is under further investigation.
