The Education Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Rohit Thakur, informed on Thursday that revised textbooks focused on the state's history, culture and heritage
for Classes 6, 7 and 8 will be introduced from the academic year 2027-28. The new books will be implemented in schools affiliated with the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE). According to a PTI report, the decision was announced during a meeting chaired by Thakur to review the revision of textbooks for middle school classes. The revised curriculum aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Himachal Pradesh's geography, society, history, folk culture, economy and political system. The textbooks will also include content on the state's dialects, traditional cuisine, freedom fighters, Kargil heroes, soldiers, contemporary challenges, and other significant aspects of its heritage and identity, as per an official statement.
Revised Textbooks to Be Finalised Within a Month
Thakur has said that the content and factual material for the revised textbooks will be finalised within a month to facilitate their early publication. The new books will be introduced in HPBOSE-affiliated schools from the 2027-28 academic session.
He also highlighted that the revised textbook will help students gain a better understanding of the State's history, culture and heritage. At the same time, it will also make them develop curiosity for learning, analytical thinking, and help those preparing for competitive examinations.
To oversee the process, the state government has constituted a committee headed by the Education Minister. The panel consists of some important members, which include the Secretary (Education), representatives from the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), assistant professors and other education experts.
The panel is responsible to review and strengthen the curriculum for Classes 6 to 8 for the academic session 2027-28. The minister also informed that the panel has been conducting regular meetings to ensure the timely preparation and implementation of the revised textbooks.
