Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said that the state is moving ahead towards becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by accelerating
infrastructure development, attracting investments, and creating better business opportunities. Deputy CM Shinde said that Maharashtra is "not just participating" but is "leading India’s growth story". Addressing the Economic Times Business Conclave in Mumbai, Eknath Shinde recounted the state’s infrastructure development, connectivity, skilled workforce, and industrial ecosystem as factors that are keeping Maharashtra at the forefront of India’s economic development.
Eknath Shinde Highlights Investment Commitments Received In Maharashtra
Recalling the Davos Economic Forum, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Maharashtra received investment MoUs worth Rs 3 lakh crore. This was during his first visit to Davos in 2022 when he was the CM. The investment MoUs were worth Rs 4 lakh crore during his second visit, while further efforts resulted in proposals worth around Rs 10 lakh crore and Rs 12 lakh crore.
He further said that this — attracting investments — was not a small thing.
Shinde Lists Affordable Housing As Key Priority
Mentioning that Mumbai requires around 12 lakh homes, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region around 20 lakh homes, and an additional 15 lakh homes by 2023, Deputy CM Shinde said that the government has set a target of constructing 35 lakh homes for economically weaker and low-income groups by 2030.
"We want to make Mumbai slum-free," he said, sharing plans that cluster redevelopment would be targeted to redevelop slum areas.
Mumbai Metro Network Expansion To 500-Kms
Sharing future expansion plans of Mumbai metro, Ekanth Shinde said that around 337 Kms of metro network is being developed in the state which will eventually expand to 500 kms.
5000-km Access Controlled Road Network
Revealing more about expansion of Maharashtra road network plans, Shinde listed out several projects including Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, which reduces travel time from 20-22 hours to around 6-7 hours.
He also listed Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Pune Missing Link projects, that further save travel time.
Mumbai 3.0 0 - High-Tech Urban Centre
The Deputy Chief Minister informed that the government is working on what he described as Mumbai 3.0.
Mumbai 3.0 - comprised as a high-tech urban centre - will have features like edge city, medicity, aerocity, sports city to attract business and people from across the world.
