A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against UP Congress president Ajay Rai over his alleged derogatory comments on Prime Minister Narendra
Modi. Advocate Neeraj Rawat filed a complaint against him following which the FIR was registered against him in the City Kotwali police station. It is being reported that an FIR has been lodged against 25-30 people who are supporters of Ajay Rai, and one among them is the outgoing secretary of the Congress Committee, Brijraj Ahirwar. The controversy had started when Ajay Rai made objectionable statements regarding PM Modi while addressing a political meet, leading to reactions from the BJP side. In his reaction, BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan said, “The remarks were inexcusable and unforgivable”. He went on to say that the Congress party promotes politically bankrupt politics. BJP leader Kesavan further criticised Congress president Rahul Gandhi stating that under his leadership, the Congress party has become an organisation where insulting statements are made against leaders. While criticising Rahul Gandhi for his statement against PM Modi over the ‘Melodi’ joke with regard to Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, he added that instead of doing a constructive political movement, the Congress party is conducting a ‘Bharat Badnam Yatra’. He also claimed that the criticism by Rahul Gandhi about PM Modi, including his statement about the “Melodi toffee” that was given to PM Meloni, was an act of Congress mocking India’s supremacy in global affairs and international diplomacy. He mentioned that the comments made by Ajay Rai on Prime Minister Narendra Modi were beyond political criticism and amounted to insulting the highest office of the constitution. On the other hand, the Congress leaders came forward in defense of their party member and charged BJP with trying to intimidate opposition members by registering cases against them through police reports and FIRs prior to political campaigns. Police authorities informed that the issue is under investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken after completing the investigation.
