The Himachal Chief Minister had announced a new dress code for students and teachers for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools. That
dress code has now been implemented across all CBSE schools of the state. As per the notice issued, the prescribed colours for teachers' uniforms are light lilac, lilac purple and navy blue, with black specified for footwear and designated accessories, a statement issued here said. For women teachers, the prescribed options include saree with blazer, kurta or a kameez with pant, plazo or salwar with blazer and shirt-trouser with tie and blazer. For men, the prescribed attire comprises shirt, trousers, tie and blazer. Additionally, it will now be compulsory for teachers to wear identity cards while on duty, and the prescribed school or departmental logo has to be displayed on the blazer. This dress code will be applicable to all teachers and principals, including the ones who are engaged through outsourced basis. The uniform guidelines aim to introduce a standardised dress code across CBSE schools in the state. The prescribed colours and attire are intended to ensure uniformity among teaching staff, while the identity card requirement and display of the official logo will help establish a common dress standard across institutions. The implementation comes a few weeks after the proposal was made during an official meeting of the Education Department on Thursday, which was chaired by the CM of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Himachal Pradesh CM had also earlier stated that the buildings of all schools should be painted in olive green and sand beige shades. Additionally, the state government also allocated Rs 80 crore to upgrade infrastructure and improve facilities in CBSE-affiliated schools, with a focus on strengthening support for both students and teachers. The Chief Minister had also earlier announced that an additional Rs 5 crore would be released to enhance the learning environment and ensure students have access to quality education closer to home.
