Karnataka School Holidays: In view of the torrential rains disrupting everyday life, several districts across Karnataka have announced the closure of educational
institutions for today, July 8, 2026. The decision has been taken with students’ safety and welfare in mind amid the incessant downpour, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. In Karnataka, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has announced a holiday for schools and pre-university colleges on July 8 in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner. A rain advisory issued on Tuesday suggested that tourists avoid riversides, beaches, and hilly areas in the district. Since the arrival of the monsoon, this is the second time the district administration has sounded a Red Alert and announced school holidays, according to PTI reports.
Karnataka Rains: Schools, Anganwadi Centres Shut in Nippani and Khanapur Taluks
Apart from this, District Collector Mohammad Roshan has declared Wednesday, July 8, a holiday for all Anganwadi centres, primary schools, and high schools in Nippani and Khanapur taluks, as well as in Belagavi city and rural areas, amid continuous rainfall.
“The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid continuous rains and waterlogging in low-lying areas,” according to news agency ANI.
The educational institutions have been directed to compensate for the lost working days during the upcoming holidays.
The holiday order has been issued by the Block Education Officer of Sagar on the directions of the Tahsildar. According to officials, the decision was taken considering students’ safety due to cold winds and heavy rain in and around Sagar taluk. They have also been directed to make up for the holiday in the forthcoming days.
Continuous overnight rains also prompted school closures in parts of Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday (July 7).
