What is the story about?
Bengaluru: The city is set for a warm yet slightly sticky Monday, with clouds hovering overhead and the chance of brief, localised rain showers keeping
residents guessing. While a light drizzle may offer momentary relief from the heat, weather officials say it is unlikely to bring any lasting change, either to temperatures or air quality. Temperatures in Bengaluru are expected to peak at around 25.7°C, with the mercury dipping to 18.6°C at night. Compared to typical winter conditions, the weather remains largely comfortable, though the higher moisture in the air may make the day feel warmer than the numbers suggest. The average temperature for the day is likely to stay close to 21.1°C.
Humidity levels are forecast to remain high at around 74%, which could leave the air feeling heavy, particularly during the late morning and early afternoon hours. Even with pleasant temperatures, the muggy conditions may prompt many to seek shade or indoor comfort.
Rain Likely to Be Brief and Patchy
The primary weather signal for the day is rain — but not the soaking kind. Forecasts point to “patchy rain nearby”, with an 86% chance of precipitation, as per a TOI report. However, total rainfall is expected to be minimal, estimated at just 0.27 mm. In practical terms, this means sudden wet roads and brief drizzles rather than sustained downpours, especially later in the day when cloud build-up peaks.
Moderate winds, reaching speeds of up to 20.9 kmph, are expected to help slightly ease the feeling of humidity in open areas. Visibility is likely to remain strong at around 10 km, indicating no major haze purely due to weather conditions.
On Sunday, Bengaluru recorded an AQI of 71, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category. On the US AQI scale, this corresponds to a value of 116, a level at which people with asthma, allergies or heart and lung conditions may experience mild symptoms such as throat dryness or coughing during exertion.
Particulate matter remains the main concern, with PM2.5 at 42 and PM10 at 54, levels that can be uncomfortable during prolonged outdoor exposure, especially near busy roads and construction zones. Carbon monoxide levels were also noted at 303, though particulates continue to be the bigger irritant for most residents.
Why Bengaluru’s Weather Won’t Bring Pollution Relief Yet
Light, scattered showers may temporarily reduce dust and coarse particles in some pockets of the city, while moderate winds could help disperse pollutants. However, with rainfall expected to be brief and limited, a dramatic improvement in air quality is unlikely. Experts warn that pollution levels may rebound quickly during peak traffic hours. For commuters, the day may bring the occasional “wet road surprise” rather than hours of rain. Masks could still be useful in pollution-prone areas, and those sensitive to humidity may want to pace outdoor activities, especially during the warmer parts of the day. After sunset, expected at 6:18 pm, temperatures should ease into a more comfortable evening, with breezy conditions making the night feel cooler.
