Major food safety and hygiene concerns took over Kanpur Dehat’s Rajpur in Uttar Pradesh– after a dead rat was allegedly found inside a “sealed” packet
of Namkeen of a popular and reputed snack company. According to the man who had bought the packet, Javed Khan, a resident of New Basti, he had purchased the packet for Rs 80 from a local shop near Mughal Road for his children. However, when he opened the packet while sitting outside the shop, he was left shocked and horrified over finding a dead animal inside the packet. A video of the same also came forward, which showed a baby rat lying inside the Namkeen packet. The packet looked sealed, whereas it had no other damage- or so is what Khan claimed. The clip then showed him confronting the shopkeeper, who was also seen checking for any damage in the package.

The discovery visibly shocked the rest of the people present at the spot. Reportedly, Javed alleged that if he had not noticed the dead rat in time, consuming the Namkeen could have posed a serious health risk.
Reportedly, he has also demanded an immediate investigation by the Food Safety Department and appropriate action against those responsible. The video, on the other hand, is also going viral on social media, with netizens sharing their anger and concern.
The incident has also sparked anger among local residents, who have demanded regular inspections of the quality and packaging of food products to prevent such incidents. Currently, further action by the Food Safety Department is awaited.
In a separate incident from the Godrej Hill area of Kalyan West, Thane, a rat was allegedly spotted moving inside an ice cream rack at a Blinkit store. According to reports, some youngsters who had visited the store to buy ice cream noticed the rat moving among the packaged items in the freezer. They recorded the moment on video, which has since surfaced on social media and is now going viral across Kalyan.
