New Delhi: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office, Jitendra Singh, on Tuesday (July 21) reportedly
visited the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram to enquire about activist Wangchuk's health. Notably, Wangchuk was shifted to the private hospital from Safdarjung Hospital after the Delhi High Court's order. The activist continued his indefinite hunger strike as thousands of students and supporters returned to Jantar Mantar to resume their agitation a day after violent clashes during a Parliament march. Over 5,000 protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar, reclaiming the protest site after Monday's clashes with Delhi Police during the 'Sansad Chalo' march. "Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office, Jitendra Singh and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda visited the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram to enquire about the health of activist Sonam Wangchuk," Sources told ANI. Wangchuk began his indefinite fast on June 28. Although he was transferred to Medanta Hospital under judicial supervision, his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, confirmed that he would continue his hunger strike in solidarity with students who were allegedly injured during the police action. On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court ordered the immediate transfer of theactivist to Medanta Hospital. The order was issued while hearing a plea by Angmo to shift him to a private hospital from Safdarjung Hospital. The private hospital has also been directed to form a panel of doctors for conducting Wangchuk's treatment. The High Court also ordered that the director of Medanta should form a team of doctors which will oversee him and administer medication in terms of accepted norms of protocol to which he shall abide. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the government, said that the Centre has no objection to shifting the activist to Medanta Hospital. However, Mehta argued that Wangchuk should remain under continuous medical supervision and not be discharged except on the advice of Medanta’s doctors.
