The district administration in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district has changed the school timings for all classes due to the thick fog and extreme
cold. As per the latest order issued on January 18, the schools will follow the revised timings from January 19. The classes will begin at 10 am and will end at 3 pm. Schools cannot begin the classes before 10 and will have to end the classes at maximum by 3pm. All government and private schools falling under the Gautam Buddha Nagar district will have to follow these revised timings. The official order reads, "In compliance with the instructions given by the District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and in view of the dense fog and extreme cold, all classes in all schools operating in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, including government, private, and all schools affiliated with various boards (CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board, and others), will be conducted from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, effective January 19, 2026, until further orders. These orders must be strictly followed." School Assembly News Headlines Today (January 19) The decision comes amid ongoing cold wave conditions and poor visibility caused by dense fog. The weather condition promped district authorities to adopt precautionary measures, especially for young children. Visibility across the National Capital remained low as cold conditions persisted and thick fog enveloped large parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported dense fog during morning hours, with moderate fog at several locations and dense fog at isolated spots. Minimum temperatures on Sunday ranged between 5 and 7 degrees Celsius, staying 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal. Stage-IV GRAP curbs back as air quality slips to ‘Severe+’ in NCR On Saturday (January 17), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reintroduced Stage-IV restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) as air quality continued to deteriorate. In its order, the CAQM said the sub-committee unanimously decided to activate all measures prescribed under Stage-IV for ‘Severe+’ air quality, citing current pollution trends and associated factors. The curbs have been enforced with immediate effect and are in addition to the measures already in place under Stages I, II and III. The order also stated that Pollution Control Boards in the NCR and other concerned agencies have been instructed to step up preventive action to prevent any further decline in air quality. Amid severe pollution, an ongoing cold wave and dense fog, authorities have advised people to restrict outdoor activities, adhere to health advisories and take precautions against hazardous air conditions.
