Thane city will soon have India’s first multimodal integrated transport station when the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train starts running. This new station is expected
to attract huge investments and create many jobs. On Friday, an international conference brought together officials from the central and Maharashtra governments, Gujarat, Japan, and local authorities to plan how to develop this important transport hub that could change the city. The Thane station will connect the bullet train with regular trains, the metro, inner metro, buses, boats, taxis, auto-rickshaws, and roads leading to the airport. This will make it a complete transport centre where people can easily switch between different modes of travel. The Thane municipal commissioner said that over 25% of the station area will be kept as green spaces. People will get all public transport options at one convenient location. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route will have 12 stations in total, with four in Maharashtra: Mumbai, Thane, Virar, and Boisar.
