As war in the Middle East region escalates, US President Donald Trump on Friday lashed out at NATO, calling the alliance a "paper tiger" and saying that
they were "nothing" without the United States. In a post on Truth Social, Trump slammed NATO for not joining the fight against Iran or helping with reopening the Strait of Hormuz and dubbed the allied nations as "cowards". "Without the U.S.A., NATO IS A PAPER TIGER! They didn’t want to join the fight to stop a Nuclear Powered Iran. Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk. COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER!" Trump said. Days ago, Trump had claimed that the US does not use the Strait of Hormuz, but it is defending it for everybody else. He had also urged NATO countries and other world powers, including China, to help in reopening it. Notably, several European countries had announced that there would be no military participation from them in the war. The conflict in West Asia has almost entered its fourth week, with escalating strikes on oil facilities. Notably, the Strait of Hormuz is witnessing severe disruption, triggering fears of a wider regional spillover. (This is a developing story)
