Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned that Democrats could try to impeach him if they win control of Congress in the November midterm elections,
urging Republican voters to treat the polls as a referendum on his presidency. Speaking at a rally in South Carolina, Trump said a Democratic victory could put his presidency at risk. “If we lose the midterms, I am going to be impeached,” Trump said, arguing that Democrats would seek to remove him from office. At the rally, Trump also warned his supporters about the consequences of losing Republican control of Congress. “So you're going to lose everything. I'm going to have to go through impeachment,” Trump said. He described his political opponents as "lunatics" and people who are "vicious, violent." “They are going to impeach me. They have no idea why,” Trump said.

Trump Urges Voters To Back Republican Candidate
Trump was speaking in support of Republican Senator Darline Graham ahead of the August 25 Republican Senate runoff election in South Carolina. Graham was appointed in July to fill the Senate seat of her late brother, Lindsey Graham, and is seeking a full six-year term.
Trump urged South Carolina Republicans to support Graham and framed the election as a test of his political agenda.
“You got to come out and vote,” Trump said, warning that a defeat could put key Republican policies at risk.
"Because if we lose, you're going to lose your border, you're going to lose your tax cuts, you're going to lose everything that we've done,” he said.
Trump also asked voters to “pretend I'm on the ballot” and treat the election as a referendum on his leadership.
Why The Midterms Matter For Trump
The US congressional elections will be held in November, with all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and a portion of the Senate up for election.
Republicans currently control Congress, but analysts have warned that the party could lose its House majority to Democrats. Trump’s declining approval ratings, the administration’s military campaign against Iran and rising prices have been cited among factors that could hurt Republicans in the midterms.
A Democratic takeover of the House would give the party greater power to launch investigations and pursue impeachment proceedings against Trump, although impeachment would require approval by the House and conviction by a two-thirds majority in the Senate for removal from office.
Trump has also spoken about constitutional limits on presidential terms, saying he would be willing to see the rules changed if another run were permitted.
Trump Defends Graham After Debate Criticism
Trump also defended Graham following criticism of her performance in a recent debate. Graham had acknowledged that national security was not her area of expertise while answering a question about Taiwan.
Trump described her response as honest and said she could rely on experienced advisers and military officials on foreign-policy issues while focusing on domestic concerns such as food prices.
Graham finished first in the August 11 Republican primary with about 32.7% of the vote. Representative Ralph Norman secured around 24.6%, while Representative Russell Fry received about 19.7%. Graham and Norman will now face each other in the Republican runoff.
Trump also promised to return to Myrtle Beach for a round of golf with the city's top golfer if Graham wins.
