Mumbai Metro 9 Opening: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is now expected to inaugurate only a section of Metro Line 9 on Republic
Day, rather than the three metro lines that were originally planned for a partial opening around Christmas last year. The section from Dahisar to the Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, which covers 4.4 km and includes four stations - Dahisar East, Pandurangwadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon - is the only part ready for passenger services. The rest of Line 9, which stretches further north from Dahisar East, will take more time before it can open, reported Hindustan Times. The prime minister was expected to inaugurate them on 25 December, but the deadlines were missed. Metro 2B, in particular, may take at least another month to be ready. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspected the new lines in December and recently issued a list of final compliances for the MMRDA to complete. According to an official, all requirements have now been addressed, and the safety certificate for Metro 9 is expected to be approved in the coming week. Once the certificate is granted, the state is likely to open the 4.4 km section of Metro 9 on 26 January. On the same day, authorities also plan to reintroduce air-conditioned services on the Harbour Line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Panvel. When Metro 9 and Metro 7A are fully operational, passengers will be able to travel directly from Mira-Bhayander to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Terminal 2, significantly reducing travel time to the airport.
