A 50-year-old man, who appeared to be "disoriented," boarded the Mumbai local's ladies coach and allegedly pushed an 18-year-old college girl from the moving
after the women commuters told him to get down, according to a TOI report. The incident happened in the coach of a Panvel-CSMT train. The man, identified as Shaikh Akhtar Nawaz, was later arrested by the Panvel government railway police (GRP) for attempted murder.
Here's What Happened
On Thursday this week, the teenage girl and her friend were going to their college in Kharghar and boarded the ladies' coach of the 7:59 AM Panvel-CSMT train at Panvel station when the accused Nawaz also boarded the ladies' coach.
The women commuters asked him to step off the coach, informing him that it was the ladies' coach; however, the man remained reluctant, which triggered a verbal spat between him and the commuters.
Shaikh further turned violent and pushed the teenage girl, who was standing near the coach's footboard pole, causing her to fall off the train, TOI reported.
The women commuters immediately called the railway helpline number, and Shaikh was detained by the cops at the next station.
The GRP team walked along the tracks to reach the spot where the girl fell off the track. However, the cops did not find her. Later, when they inquired with the commuters, it was learnt that Mahadik was taken to a nearby private hospital by a few residents.

Was The Man 'Mentally Unstable'?
"A GRP cop went to the hospital and found Mahadik there. She did not sustain major external injuries. Hence, the doctors did her CT scan and X-ray to ascertain if there were any internal injuries. Later, her parents took her home. On Friday, we inquired with her parents, who told us that she got a mild fever in the morning," Inspector told TOI.
The inspector added, "As the accused Shaikh appeared disoriented, he was taken to JJ Hospital for a medical test, where the doctors examined him and said that he appears to be mentally disturbed. Shaikh claimed that he was homeless and usually lives in the Khar-Bandra road area."
