As the Parliament standstill continues after repeated disruptions and adjournments, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has launched another sharp attack
at the Union Government. She insisted that the logjam would continue until Home Minister Amit Shah spoke in the House. In a blistering attack, the Wayanad MP said, "the deadlock will continue until the Home Minister gives a statement in Parliament." The uproar in Parliament has continued over subjects ranging from the Ram Temple donation theft, police crackdown on students at Jantar Mantar and most recently the FCRA bill. Congress MP Imran Masood took a swipe against the Central Government over the FCRA bill and the upcoming Delimitation exercise, accusing the dispensation of attempting to establish an authoritarian regime and undermine democratic norms. The FCRA Bill, 2026 seeks to empower the government to create a "Designated Authority" to take over the management of foreign contributions and assets created using foreign contributions when an organisation's FCRA registration is cancelled, surrendered or ceases because it is not renewed. The bill also states that in case of assets that are a place of worship, the Authority must ensure that its religious character is maintained. The Centre tabled the FCRA amendment bill in Lok Sabha on March 25. Ahead of the tabling of the bill in the ongoing session of the Monsoon Session, a delegation of Christian leaders had met Home Minister Shah and urged him to withdraw the proposed bill, taking exception to its "confiscatory" nature. The delegation was led by DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson. Christian leaders submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister seeking that the bill must be referred to a joint parliamentary committee if the government was not inclined to withdraw it. The delegation also urged the repeal of Section 15 of the existing Act dealing with the vesting of assets. (With ANI inputs)
