An 18-year-old man who was killed in a shooting outside a popular bar in Lawrence, Kansas, has been identified by his family. Aidan Knowles died after
being shot outside the Jayhawk Cafe, also known as The Hawk, in the early hours of Saturday, according to his father, Bobby Knowles. In a post on Facebook on Sunday, Knowles confirmed his son's death. "Unfortunately, the news is true. Our son, Aidan, was shot and killed outside a bar in Lawrence early yesterday morning," he wrote. A second victim, a 16-year-old, was also shot during the incident. Police say the teenager survived but remains in critical condition. "One of his close friends was also shot and, by the grace of God, survived against all odds," Mr Knowles said in his post. "We have learned that our son was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. We are completely devastated." He added: "We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from our friends and family who have reached out. It truly means more than we can put into words." The shooting happened at about 02:00 local time, when officers from the Lawrence Police Department were called to reports of gunfire. Police said two victims were found at the scene. Authorities later located two suspects a few blocks away using K-9 units and drones. The suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Douglas County jail. Jail records show the two individuals were booked on charges including first-degree murder. Formal charges have not yet been filed, and police have not released the suspects' names. An investigation into the shooting is continuing.
