Mumbai: With a rise in passenger demand expected during the Holi festival, the Railways has announced the operation of 30 additional Holi Special train
services from Mumbai to ease crowd pressure and ensure smoother travel for passengers. The move includes new special trains as well as extensions of existing services on busy routes connecting Mumbai with parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.
New Special Trains From Mumbai To Varanasi
As part of the plan, the Railways will run eight AC special trains between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Mumbai, and Sultanpur and Varanasi.

Four AC special services will operate between LTT Mumbai and Sultanpur. These trains will depart Mumbai at 2.35 pm on February 27 and March 3, reaching Sultanpur at 11 pm the next day. For the return journey, the trains will leave Sultanpur at 4 am on February 26 and March 2, arriving in Mumbai at 12.20 pm the following day.
Similarly, four AC special services will run between LTT Mumbai and Varanasi. These trains will depart Mumbai at 2.35 pm on February 26 and March 2, reaching Varanasi at 2.05 am on the third day. On the return leg, trains will leave Varanasi at 1.35 am on February 25 and March 1, arriving in Mumbai at 12.20 pm the next day.
Existing Mumbai Routes Get Extended Services
Along with new trains, the Railways has extended 22 existing services as Holi Specials on key routes.
On the Mumbai–Raxaul–Mumbai route, eight additional trips have been added. The Raxaul Special will operate as a Holi Special from March 12 to April 2, offering four services. Another weekly special running every Tuesday has been extended from March 10 to March 31, adding four more trips.
Mumbai–Saharsa Route Sees More Trains
The Mumbai–Saharsa–Mumbai route will also get eight extended services. One Saharsa Special running every Sunday has been extended from March 8 to March 29, while another Saharsa Special will operate from March 6 to March 27, providing four services.
Railway officials said the decision aims to reduce waiting lists and manage the heavy festive rush during Holi.
