The weather office has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of light to moderate rain across many parts of the city, while a few places could witness heavy rainfall during the day. Temperatures to Remain Pleasant After Thursday's Downpour
Delhi is expected to remain significantly cooler than usual after Thursday's widespread rainfall, which became the wettest day of August so far this year. The maximum temperature on Friday is likely to settle between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to remain around 22 to 24 degrees Celsius.On Thursday, heavy showers brought temperatures down sharply across the capital. Safdarjung recorded a maximum of 27.6 degrees Celsius, nearly 6.6 degrees below normal, while Palam, Ridge, Lodhi Road and Ayanagar also reported temperatures well below seasonal averages.
Rainfall was widespread, with Lodhi Road receiving 60.4 mm, followed by Safdarjung (56 mm), Ridge (54.4 mm), Ayanagar (22.3 mm) and Palam (14.6 mm) between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.
Traffic, Waterlogging Likely to Persist
With another wet day forecast, residents have been advised to brace for possible waterlogging and traffic snarls. Thursday's showers inundated several roads across Delhi, severely disrupting traffic in areas including Sangam Vihar, Sainik Farms, Tughlaqabad, Shastri Park, ITO, Rohtak Road, NH-48, MB Road, Kalindi Kunj, Najafgarh, Akshardham and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.The IMD expects similar conditions on Friday, warning of major traffic disruption, water accumulation in low-lying areas, and an increased chance of road accidents due to slippery conditions.
Rain to Continue Till Next Week
According to the seven-day forecast, rain activity is expected to continue over Delhi through the weekend and into next week. Light to moderate rainfall is likely on Saturday, while intermittent light rain is forecast between August 8 and August 12, with generally cloudy skies prevailing across the capital.Weather experts attribute the prolonged wet spell to an active monsoon trough, a western disturbance over the Himalayas and multiple cyclonic circulations drawing moisture from the Bay of Bengal, keeping rainfall activity active over north India.
Despite the wet weather, Delhi's air quality is expected to remain in the 'satisfactory' category, aided by the continued rainfall and improved atmospheric conditions.
