What is the story about?
Delhi is expected to wake up to fog on Sunday (January 25), as the India Meteorological Department has predicted moderate fog during the morning hours
tomorrow. The weather is likely to remain cold on Sunday, with the minimum temperature dropping to 5 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD forecast, there will be "partly cloudy sky, shallow to moderate fog during morning hours". However, no warning has been issued by the met department. The maximum temperature will remain around 19 degrees Celsius and the minimum will drop to 5 degrees Celsius.
Delhi Logs Highest January Rainfall in 3 Years
Earlier on Friday, Delhi witnessed light to moderate rainfall along with overcast skies and gusty winds. Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, Delhi recorded 13.2 mm of rainfall, marking the highest single-day January rainfall in three years. The previous higher spell was on January 30, 2023, when the city received 20.3 mm of rain.
However, on Saturday, the morning in Delhi started with a calm outlook with no rain, but a chilly temperature of 13 degrees Celsius persisted.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued any colour-coded alert for Delhi for the next six days. However, it has forecast a fall in minimum temperatures from Saturday to Monday as cold north-westerly winds return. Another western disturbance is expected to raise temperatures again between January 27 and 29.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice-President at Skymet, noted that another western disturbance will affect the region from January 26 onwards. As a result, north-westerly winds are likely to persist for only about two days, leading to a mild dip in minimum temperatures rather than a sharp fall. Coldwave conditions are therefore unlikely, with another drop in temperature expected only after January 29.
