New Delhi: Delhi woke up to rain on Tuesday (July 21) morning, with showers lashing several parts of the capital since early hours, bringing much-needed
relief after days of oppressive heat and humidity. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the day, warning of light to moderate rainfall through Tuesday, even as temperatures have dropped significantly following Monday's return of the monsoon after a nine-day break.
The weather department has predicted a generally cloudy sky for Tuesday with one or two spells of light to moderate rain at most places, while isolated areas may receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, especially during the early morning to noon hours. Another spell of very light to light rain is likely later in the day.
Delhi Weather Today: Temperature Likely To Dip Further
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures are expected to remain subdued due to cloud cover and continuous rainfall activity. Safdarjung, the city's base weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, a drop of 6.7 degrees compared to Sunday.The minimum temperature stood at 26.8 degrees Celsius, also 4.2 degrees lower than the previous day. Safdarjung recorded 6.2mm of rainfall while Ayanagar received 5.9mm.
According to the IMD, the pattern will be the same on Tuesday too; the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to settle between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, bringing cooler conditions compared to the recent hot and humid spell.
The rainfall is expected to keep daytime temperatures below normal, although humidity levels are likely to remain high.

Intermittent showers through Sunday night and Monday morning gave way to cloudy skies through the day, with light rain at isolated locations keeping temperatures in check.The IMD's extended forecast suggests that rainfall activity is likely to continue through July 22, with light to moderate rain expected across most parts of Delhi and heavy showers at isolated locations. Weather conditions are expected to improve gradually from July 23, with lighter rainfall before turning mainly cloudy later in the week.
Delhi Weather Today: IMD Warns Of Traffic Disruptions
The IMD has cautioned that heavy rain and strong winds may lead to minor traffic disruptions, an increased risk of vehicular accidents, and temporary power outages in some areas. Partial damage to vulnerable structures due to gusty winds is also possible.Residents have been advised to:

- Stay away from power lines and electrical wires.
- Avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
- Keep doors and windows closed during strong winds.
