As Delhi-NCR is witnessing a gradual increase in temperature, ultimately affecting the Air Quality Index (AQI), the Delhi government has announced a series
of measures to keep pollution under control in the coming months. The Delhi government has announced a ban on construction and demolition activities, along with staggered office timings, with the measures coming into effect from November 01, 2026. According to the announcement, dust-generating demolition activities and outdoor civil construction work will be banned from November 01, 2026, to January 31, 2027. Whereas a complete ban on construction and demolition activities has been announced, which will be imposed from December 10, 2026, to January 20, 2027. The government has also decided to double existing parking charges at authorised parking sites from November 01, 2026, to February 28, 2027, in a bid to reduce the use of private vehicles. However, the revised charges will not apply to parking spaces owned and managed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). As part of the measures, office timings will also be staggered between November 01 and February 28. Offices under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will operate from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, while offices under the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) will function from 10 AM to 6:30 PM. Government and private offices will also be required to reduce their workforce by ‘50 per cent’, with half of the staff working from home during this period.

Coming to Delhi’s weather, the temperature has dropped significantly over the last few weeks, with parts of the NCR even receiving rainfall. However, along with the temperature, the region is also seeing an increase in the AQI. As per AQI.in, the national capital’s AQI started seeing a steady increase after September 18. The figure continued to remain high till September 24, before starting to drop again.
As per AQI.in, the AQI currently stands at 99 in Delhi, as of September 28, which comes under the ‘Moderate’ category.
