As pollution levels spike in Bengaluru, with air quality falling to "moderate", while some regions record "poor" air quality index (AQI), the Karnataka
State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) is aiming to curb air pollution by installing air purifiers at key junctions in the city. This move will help clear dust particles in the high-traffic and busiest areas in Bengaluru. This comes as there has been an alarming rise in PM2.5 levels, which is a potential cause for a range of respiratory ailments. KSPCB chairman PM Narendraswamy told TOI that the board is exploring the installation of air purifiers at key junctions to help clear dust particles in high-traffic areas. "The city was once known globally for its clean, ambient air. Earlier, several major junctions in Bengaluru had water fountains that acted as natural diffusers, absorbing dust particles with the help of moisture. Those features have disappeared over time, and the consequences are visible in the dust-heavy air we breathe today," Narendraswamy added. He noted that previous trials gave promising results, and hence the board has now written to the CPCB, seeking permission to install these purifiers at the busiest junction.
