What is the story about?
The “Cockroach Janta Party,” launched by former AAP social media worker Abhijeet Dipke following remarks made by the Chief Justice of India referring to
unemployed youth as “cockroaches,” has quickly gained massive online traction. Within just three days, the satirical political movement reportedly crossed 3 million followers, sparking widespread discussion and meme-driven engagement on social media. The party’s Instagram page, which now features over 46 posts, claims a following of around 3.7 million users. Its bio describes it as “a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth,” reflecting its satirical yet youth-centric positioning.
According to its website, the initiative presents itself as a voice for the “lazy and unemployed,” with slogans such as “A political party for the people the system forgot to count. Five demands. Zero sponsors. One large, stubborn swarm.” The platform also outlines a manifesto that has drawn significant attention online.
The manifesto includes demands such as 50% reservation for women, action against biased media and anchors, no Rajya Sabha seats for post-retirement Chief Justices, and stricter action against political defections. The tone of the document has been widely circulated and heavily discussed across digital platforms, with users amplifying it through memes and commentary.
The controversy traces back to remarks made by the CJI during a hearing on May 15, where he referred to unemployed youth becoming “journalists, activists and social media users” and “attacking everyone.” The statement later sparked clarification, with the CJI stating that his comments were being misinterpreted and were not intended as criticism of unemployed youth.
Meanwhile, in response to the growing buzz, another social media-driven initiative titled the “Indian National Cockroaches” has emerged as a counter-satirical group. With multiple parody parties now surfacing online, the trend has snowballed into a wider meme-driven political satire wave, reflecting the internet’s rapidly escalating engagement with the controversy.
