The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Delhi rice sale allegations against the BJP have escalated to an Assembly battle as MLA Kuldeep Kumar flung rice grains at Vidhan
Sabha officials. Reiterating his party's rice sale scam charges against the ruling BJP in Delhi, Kumar raised slogans against Food Supply Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa inside the Assembly. Sirsa, however, completely denied all charges that the Delhi government bought or sold the rice, and said he will be pursuing a defamation suit against AAP. The Aam Aadmi Party MLAs also protested with rice bags in the Delhi Assembly premises on the third day of the Monsoon Session, alleging that the BJP government has sold subsidised rice, intended for the city's poor, to a private company in Haryana. AAP's Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the government has "black-marketed" rice meant for the city's poor to the private company. AAP's core claim is that the BJP indulged in a whopping Rs. 22,000 crore rice scam, where subsidised rice meant for Delhi's poor people was allegedly diverted and resold at nearly double the price, which they claim, generated over Rs. 70 crores in weekly "commissions." As per the Aam Aadmi Party and Saurabh Bhardwaj, the timeline of the scam began in January 2026, when a corporation from Assam allegedly wrote to Sirsa's department, asking to receive cheap, centrally-subsidised rice for distribution.
