The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance has reportedly secured a decisive victory in the much-anticipated 2026 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation
(BMC) elections, according to early inputs from Times Now sources, with counting underway as the official results are still awaited. The BMC win has triggered a flood of memes and humorous reactions across social media, turning the election outcome into a full-blown internet spectacle. Mumbai’s civic body has been a stronghold of the Thackeray family for decades. However, this election marked a direct face-off between the BJP-led alliance and rival Thackeray factions, making the outcome especially significant. As trends began favouring the Mahayuti (Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde's faction of the Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's faction of the Nationalist Congress Party), online platforms erupted with satire, jokes and viral content highlighting the political shift. Social media users have been circulating memes referencing Raj Thackeray’s past “rasmalai” remark aimed at BJP leader K Annamalai, with several posts jokingly depicting BJP leaders serving rasmalai to the Thackeray brothers. Other viral posts highlight how Mumbai voters allegedly “voted out” the Thackerays, crediting the city’s electorate for the dramatic political upset.
Some memes, however, struck a more cautious note, suggesting that the real verdict on the new leadership will come during Mumbai’s monsoon season. According to these posts, the true test of governance will be measured by how effectively the winning alliance handles flooding and infrastructure challenges during heavy rains.
As per ongoing trends, the BJP is leading in 131 wards across Mumbai. Shiv Sena (UBT) currently stands second with leads in 32 wards, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction is ahead in 15 wards at the same stage of counting. The Mahayuti alliance, spearheaded by the BJP, appears poised to end the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena’s three-decade-long control over the BMC.
Although the final results are yet to be officially declared, trends strongly indicate a BJP-led victory, with the internet continuing to react in real time through memes, commentary and political humour.
