Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his late night video message to the students.
The Prime Minister on the intervening night of July 23-24 assured students that the government will take strict action in view of the paper leaks in the country. Attacking the Prime Minister over his midnight message and on the eve of Cockroach Janta Party's nationwide protest call, the Leader of Opposition alleged that he (PM Modi ) was sidestepping the issue of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. The development surfaced after activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day long hunger strike, that was also the part of CJP protest and with similar demands including Pradhan's sacking. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Gandhi said that the prime minister should not insult the intelligence of students and reiterated their three demands, including resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.

Prime Minister Modi announced that his government would take strict action against paper leaks and would discuss and finalise a law in this regard in Friday (today) meeting of the Union Cabinet.Modi announced on Thursday that a bill containing provisions for strong action against paper leaks will be introduced in Parliament next week.
The cabinet will discuss the issue of paper leaks today, and taking suggestions of the cabinet colleagues, further action will be finalised.
"On Monday, when the second week of the Monsoon session of Parliament will begin, a bill will be brought with provisions for strong action against paper leaks, and we will try to pass it as early as possible," the Prime Minister said.
